Transit Gallery

In 1998, Transit moved from Leuven to Mechelen, where it occupies an art-deco building dating from 1934. The gallery promotes contemporary art from around the world. One part of the building shows work by the gallery’s regular artists and work from past exhibitions. Every two months new exhibitions are mounted in a separate gallery.

Accessibility

At the entrance, there are three steps, measuring 13, 18, and 17 cm respectively. There is no access ramp. Inside, there is ample space for wheelchair users to move around. There are double doors to enter the hall, but the other doorways in the building are 64 cm wide. In the gallery at the rear of the building, there are three steps, each measuring 17 cm. The restroom is only accessible by climbing 14 steps. There is no elevator.
